Case study: Participant Media
Background: Mercy Corps partnered with Participant Media on, “Beasts of No Nation”, which launched on Netflix and in select theaters October 2015. The film is a fictional portrayal of an adolescent boy who becomes a child soldier.
Project: As a social action partner, Mercy Corps, along with another international charity, helped to provide the context by providing a point of view on the impact violent conflict has on youth and driving a call to action for film viewers to sign an online petition. To help promote the movie, Mercy Corps provided a spokesperson alongside the film’s director and writer at the movie’s premiere screening in Washington D.C. and wrote an article that was published on Participant Media’s digital magazine, TakePart.com.
Impact: Together, Participant Media and Mercy Corps shared meaningful content with audiences that wanted to engage in making lasting change for young people affected by war.
