After several days of trying, two Mercy Corps staffers were permitted into Gaza today: Albana Dwonch, who works with our Global Youth Connectivity project, and Cassandra Nelson, our global media and communications officer.

Previously only journalists and medical personnel had been let in. Mercy Corps and other aid groups still need better access for humanitarian aid.

"The only people who are supporting what's shaping up as a billion-dollar recovery effort are national staff who have been through 22 days of war," explained Nelson. "They've been holding this relief effort together under fire for three weeks."

Nelson said not only more manpower is needed, but also expertise in fields such as logistics and psychosocial support.
