Dear members of the Portland community,
Please join me at Candlelight Vigil and Fundraiser for Japan on Friday, March 18 from 6:00–8:00 P.M. at Pioneer Courthouse Square.
Visit the event website for more details at http://www.vigil4japanpdx.org.
This is a public event to raise awareness and pray for the victims of the recent Japan earthquake and tsunami. All the donations raised during the event will be donated to Mercy Corps' effort in Japan to support those who survived the horrific disaster. There will be Taiko (Japanese drum) and dance performance by Takohachi. Please bring non-wax/non-colored candles (to avoid making stains on the bricks) and flashlights (in case of rain).
The organizer, my friends and I have been working to make this event successful with all of our energy. Devastated by the heartbreaking tragedy happening back home, in Japan, it almost feels devoting myself to this event is only the way I can keep myself stay positive and strong. I hope this event would be a great way to have a positive impact and help people feel connected to one another.
“Ganbare Nippon! Stay Strong, Japan!”
Special THANKS to many of Mercy Corps colleagues and the Portland State University community for your great support organizing this event, also to the City of Portland, Mayor Sam Adams and City Commissioner Nick Fish for offering the place of the event and making an exemption from the costs of renting the place.
Hope to see you all there!
