Woman in yellow headscarf in tunisia

The context

The revolution in Tunisia sparked the 2011 Arab Awakening, a dynamic historical moment that is transforming the entire region. After successful elections in 2014, the country is divided between the newly-elected secular government and the Islamist presence in the South.

This democratic process is positioning Tunisia as the only country of the Arab Spring that has succeeded its political transition peacefully. Young people, who comprise 50 percent of the country’s population, are playing a vital role in the country’s transition. However, with extreme urban-rural divides, young people and women are at risk of being left behind.
