Forty-two percent of the world is under the age of 25. In some countries – such as Uganda – young people (ages 15-24) make up as much as 70% of the total population. No wonder Mercy Corps sees youth as a strategic priority. Rather than viewing young people as troublemakers or a demographic challenge, we believe in the positive power of youth and the critical role they play in enabling their countries to thrive. Particularly with regards to employment, Mercy Corps seeks to change the narrative around youth and highlight the ways in which young people are driving their economies forward through extraordinary action.
