President’s proposed budget includes important reforms; troubling cuts to disaster aid
There is much to admire in President Obama’s FY14 budget, and we applaud his continued commitment to the world’s poorest people. In particular, the President’s proposed reforms to the United States’ food aid system are important and long overdue. However, Mercy Corps is also deeply concerned by the Administration’s proposed cuts to disaster assistance amidst a budget request that otherwise provides adequate support for humanitarian aid.

Myanmar: Mercy Corps and MasterCard partner in Myanmar to empower small farmers and entrepreneurs
PORTLAND, Ore. – The global humanitarian and development organization, Mercy Corps, and global technology and payments industry leader, MasterCard Worldwide, are announcing a partnership in the newly democratic country of Myanmar. Mercy Corps, MasterCard’s first NGO partner in Myanmar, will implement a business literacy program called Business and Financial Literacy for Success, which will educate small farmers and households on basic business skills and money management practices, with MasterCard’s support.

Mercy Corps Welcomes Rick Downey as New Planned Giving Director

Uganda: Mercy Corps and Mobipay launch mobile services for Ugandan farmers
This week global humanitarian organisation Mercy Corps and mobile financial service technology provider Mobipay launched a partnership to extend the Agrilife service to farmers in Uganda. The platform uses mobile technology to provide insights into farmers’ production capabilities and projects their future production levels, ultimately making it much easier for them to access credit.
