Terror returns to Democratic Republic of Congo

In one of the poorest, most violent and disease-ridden places on earth, Salim Semanza has somehow put together an outfit: red frilly dress shirt, black bow tie and grey suit with matching red watch and red and grey winkle-pickers. The Congolese love their fashion even if, at 24, Salim has only ever known war.

In the past two years, he has seen his home burnt to the ground and sister killed. He was also shot by one of the many militias that hide in the jungles of North Kivu, an eastern province of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
