Be there when the world's most vulnerable communities need you most.

One of the most effective ways to help families in a crisis is to give them cash, empowering them to make their own choices around what they need most. In Myanmar, we recently distributed cash and launched the country’s first-ever electronic voucher system.

We cannot predict when a disaster will strike or how long a crisis will last.

We do, however, know one thing for certain: natural and man-made disasters always impact the most vulnerable. The families who lack access to basic resources like soap and water, people who have been forced from their homes by violence to live in refugee camps, and entire communities that have been destroyed by an earthquake or flood - these are the people who are hit the hardest by disasters and need humanitarian support when the unexpected happens.

One of the most powerful ways you can support families facing disaster around the world is by including Mercy Corps as a beneficiary in your will.

Whether it is a sudden, unexpected disaster like a hurricane or an emerging crisis like COVID‑19, including Mercy Corps in your will helps our team of humanitarians respond at a moment’s notice, saving and improving lives.

With groundwater tainted from the hurricane’s surge and strength, Mercy Corps’ emergency response team, together with Mission Resolve, coordinated the deployment of a water treatment and desalination plant from the hull of a barge to a site in Freeport on Grand Bahama Island.
About 7,500 gallons/day of potable water is produced, tested for quality, and distributed to health clinics and members of the community.
Producing fresh water reduces the need for individual plastic bottles and the waste associated with them as well as conserving space and fuel for ongoing rebuilding efforts.

A legacy gift to Mercy Corps shows that you believe a better world is possible and that you are committed to that vision. Your gift will help future generations overcome unexpected hardships.

Mercy Corps reaches vulnerable people rapidly after a disaster – and helps them to rebuild their lives long after the disaster has faded from the news. But we will still need you. Support from legacy gifts makes a world of difference in our ability to respond quickly and impact the lives of those who need it most.

Why choose Mercy Corps?

  • Mercy Corps has responded to almost every major global disaster over the last two decades, including the Nepal earthquake, the hunger crisis in the Horn of Africa, the Indian Ocean tsunami and Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. We’re also in places like Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where we’ve helped contain the Ebola epidemic.
  • Our nearly 6,000 team members work side by side with people living through poverty, disaster, violent conflict and the acute impacts of climate change. We’re committed to creating global change through local impact – 85% of our team members are from the countries where they work.
  • When urgent help is needed, we respond immediately in cases of natural or man-made disasters and stay to help survivors rebuild. To learn more about our approach, please watch the short video below.
