Environmental assessment and due diligence
Mercy Corps knows that a healthy environment is necessary for secure, just and productive communities. Our programs strive not only to protect the environment and the critical resources and services it provides, but actively restore and support sustainable management of the environment.
While our programs are designed via rigorous evaluations and substantial community engagement, even the best plans can have united consequences. As a result, its critical that we ensure our programs do not have any unintended negative environmental and social impacts. Mercy Corps has a robust system in place to identify, assess, manage and monitor these potential unintended risks and impacts, in line with our Global Environmental Policy. As outlined in the Policy, it is the responsibility of Mercy Corps' staff and implementing partners to proactively prevent or minimize any potential risks or negative effects on the environment in the course of their duties.
Mercy Corps seeks to be transparent and accountable when it comes to these risks and our responsibilities to manage and mitigate them. Below we sharing assessments, evaluations and other forms of environmental and social risk information for active and recently completed programs.
