Six months after Typhoon Haiyan, the most devastating storm ever to hit the Philippines, recovery efforts continue in many of the hardest hit areas. In this video, learn about our new collaboration with IDEO.org to help families find more secure financial footing in post-disaster communities.
It's the next step in Mercy Corps' efforts to help Haiyan survivors recover and build back better. After providing emergency relief in the immediate aftermath of the disaster, we partnered with BanKO, the Philippines' first mobile-phone based bank, to provide relief funds for tens of thousands of Haiyan survivors through mobile savings accounts.
Not only has this technology given families the resources to begin rebuilding, it is, for many, the first time they've had the ability to save money securely in a country where 80% of the population does not have access to a bank account.
Seeing the opportunity to make a longer-term impact, BanKO and Mercy Corps teamed up with IDEO.org to design new technologies and services that will support the financial security of Filipinos hardest hit by Typhoon Haiyan for years to come. Read the announcement ▸
