Violent conflicts and the climate crisis are contributing to a global hunger crisis — more than 309 million people are experiencing chronic hunger. The situations are dire in places like Gaza, Haiti, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa:

  • Nearly 500,000 people are facing severe hunger in Gaza, as the incursion in Rafah continues.
  • One in three people is now facing severe hunger as armed groups have taken over Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, committing violent attacks and stripping families of access to healthcare, food, and education.
  • In Sudan, after a civil war started over a year ago, more than 18 million people face acute hunger.
  • Across Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia, more than 36 million people are facing unprecedented levels of hunger due to prolonged drought.

Mercy Corps is on the ground in each of these regions to deliver aid, including food and cash assistance, to families in need. We will continue to work to help families recover and strive in the face of disaster and conflict.
