Portland, OR – Honor your loved one this Valentine’s Day with a gift that helps Haitians recover from the massive earthquake that has left over one million homeless. The global relief and development organization, Mercy Corps is offering two charitable gifts called “Mercy Kits” that support the agency’s recovery and rebuilding work in the heavily damaged capital city of Port-au-Prince.

The Haiti Rebuilding Kit for $75 supports Mercy Corps’ work paying local residents to clear debris, clean wells, build latrines and rehabilitate schools. More than 7,500 Haitians are taking part in the jobs program; injecting much-needed cash into the local economy and engaging residents in critical community recovery.

The Comfort for Kids Kit for $32 supports the agency’s work helping children cope with emotional trauma in the wake of the earthquake. The Comfort for Kids program combines a trauma training workshop for caregivers with a workbook that helps children tell their story of the disaster in a safe setting. It's been deployed successfully to alleviate trauma in the aftermath of 9/11, Hurricane Katrina and earthquakes in Peru and China. The price of this kit reflects the cost of two "comfort kits" — packs filled with items including a blanket, sketchpad, crayons and toys — distributed as part of our program.

There are over 20 other Mercy Kits that support the agency’s work globally ranging in price from $18 to $1000 including the Drinking Water Kit for $20 and Children’s Health Kit for $35. Discover all the available Mercy Kits at
