Mercy Corps Statement On Alleged Chemical Attack In Idlib, Syria

April 4, 2017

AMMAN, JORDAN – The global organization Mercy Corps is horrified by reports of a suspected chemical attack today in Idlib, Syria, which killed dozens and injured scores more. Ironically, just a few weeks ago the United Nations Security Council failed to adopt a resolution that would have imposed sanctions on parties using chemical weapons.

The people of Syria have been trying to survive through more than six years of a seemingly endless conflict. Indiscriminate violence toward innocent civilians will not end without a political solution. Mercy Corps urges all parties to come to the negotiating table and seek consensus on a peaceful path forward.

Mercy Corps is a leading responder to the Syria crisis, reaching hundreds of thousands of civilians across Syria each month with lifesaving assistance and support.
