Savitri Devi Chaudry is a member of her village's Disaster Preparedness Committee. The committee is part of Mercy Corps' Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) program, which aims to reduce the risks of flooding by implementing measures like building up river embankments, planting grass to help stabilize the land, and building bamboo spurs to help hold the bank in place. Mercy Corps teams teach the community about the protections available, and their Committee decides what will work best in their particular location. Sirens are also provided for future flood warnings.
