Ghadan, 9, shares one of her drawings in the Comfort for Kids workbook. The signature Mercy Corps program helps children process their trauma through creative expression and activities.
It's now the only organized activity for many of the young Syrian refugees in Lebanon. The country's schools simply haven't been able to handle the influx of new students.
A psychologist who has been working with Ghadan and other children who arrived from Syria last fall remarked how much better they've gotten throughout the course of the program. The pictures they draw — like this one of Ghadan and her mother in a garden — show much happier scenes than they did before.
