Design with the Other 90%: CITIES, on view at both Mercy Corps and Museum of Contemporary Craft, explores innovative approaches in urban planning, sustainable design, affordable housing, entrepreneurship, nonformal education, and public health taking place in informal settlements around the globe. After curating the first exhibition in Copper-Hewitt’s series on humanitarian design in 2007, curator Cynthia Smith spent a year of field research in 15 different cities in Asia, Africa and Latin America, focusing on successful design solutions to rapidly expanding informal cities. Join us for a behind-the-scenes lecture on this exhibition.

Ms. Smith will also give brief introductory remarks at the public reception at Mercy Corps, 5:30 - 7:30 pm pm, Thursday, September 27.
