Syria in the wake of earthquake crisis

Syria
Harim, Syria. People in Northwest Syria rush to a building that was damaged by the massive earthquake that struck the region on February 6, 2023.

Less than a day after the massive earthquake toppled buildings and homes, devastating Northwest Syria, Mercy Corps was on the ground responding. Six months later, our colleagues reached more than 300,000 people with critical aid in the wake of this crisis.

However, there are still many challenges to delivering aid in a politically and economically complex region like Northwest Syria. Before the earthquakes, 4 million people already relied on humanitarian assistance after experiencing more than a decade of conflict. Since the earthquake, over 100,000 more people have flooded camps for displaced people.

In Syria, Ukraine, Pakistan, Somalia, and 40+ countries worldwide, Mercy Corps is committed to staying the course as families and communities recover, rebuild, and thrive. With humanitarian needs at an all-time high, we must do more.
