Mercy Corps taps into soccer's popularity and convening power to engage young people and their communities for positive change. We call these programs Sport for Change. Sport for Change is all about tapping into young people’s love for the game and building the capacity of a caring role model to help address pressing social issues like emotional recovery following natural disasters and armed conflict, or preventing gender-based violence and HIV infection.

Mercy Corps is currently partnering with the Portland Timbers on our Sport for Change programming in Haiti, which includes Timbers coaches training some of Haiti's youth soccer coaches.

This video will show at halftime during tonight's Portland Timbers match against the San Jose Earthquakes at JELD-WEN Field in Portland as part of an in-game fundraiser.
