Earthquake devastates China's Qinghai Province

Earlier today, a 6.9 earthquake struck one of China's westernmost provinces, killing at least 400 people and injuring thousands. Untold numbers of families are displaced and needing shelter as temperatures plummet in one of the country's most rugged areas.

Our team in China is in the earthquake region and joining a local organization to assess needs. Your donation to our China Earthquake Fund will help us mobilize efforts and help stricken communities.

Qinghai — a region on the Tibetan Plateau — borders Sichuan Province, where Mercy Corps responded to a deadly earthquake in 2008. Our continuing work in Sichuan has delivered critical assistance to families and provided trauma counseling for thousands of children who survived the devastation.

Roger,
I'm looking for a volunteer position for both myself and 15 year old son. My son just finished up his freshman year in college as a computer science major. I currently work PT for FEMA evaluating losses and writing grants. In my previous life was a general contractor for 20+ years My son would be interest in IT work and has experience behind the video camera at the local TV station, as well as having done a hand full of Indie movies on both sides of the camera. I have taught PT at the community college level for over 10 years, while my son had done a lot of tutoring, especially in math and some English Together we have coached younger kids in Lego Robotics (and we have lots). We could commit 3 months and up to a year if things work out.
