Carbon Connections: Carbon Finance and Sustainable Development
December 25, 2007
Mercy Corps' Climate Change Unit hosted their inaugural Carbon Connections Seminar on Tuesday, November 13, 2007 in Edinburgh.
The event was the first to bring together representatives from the corporate, non-governmental organization (NGO) and academic worlds to discuss issues related to carbon finance and sustainable development in relation to carbon offsetting in the developing world.
Participants heard from representatives of the Gold Standard Foundation, BioClimate Research and Development, JPMorgan Chase, Plan Vivo, Forum for the Future, The CarbonNeutral Company, and some of Mercy Corps' own staff.
Due to sustained interest in this topic, Mercy Corps is now considering hosting another event in the future, possibly focusing on the ways in which analysis of projects can be conducted including guidance on economic and financial analysis, as well as tools to ensure sustainable development standards are maintained.
