International Development 101
July 16-20, 2012

Monday – Friday 9-4pm

Join Mercy Corps staff at the Action Center for an active and eye-opening week exploring global issues and building community projects. Mercy Corps, an international humanitarian aid organization based in Portland, specializes in community-based development projects in more than 40 countries around the world.

Take the first steps in learning how major global issues like food security, economic development and climate change are relevant in your own community.

We will spend each morning examining global issues through interactive workshops, guest speakers and multi-media exhibits. Afternoons will be in the field observing, and taking part in community projects. Meet new people, explore Portland and learn about the globe! For students entering 9th -12th grade.

Global Citizen Corps National Summit:
June 25 – 29, 2012

Monday – Friday, Residential Camp
Cost: $350* - Youth will be selected and notified after completing application - info below.

Step up your commitment and time and join Mercy Corps international youth leadership program. The GCC National Summit launches a year-long program for youth leaders around the country. This interactive, educational and fun orientation training brings motivated youth together to get the skills to make a difference.

Meet other leaders from around the country in-person and talk to fellow GCC leaders from Iraq to Indonesia through live video conference calls and online discussions. Spend your days learning about global issues and preparing your own action projects. During the evenings get to know your peers and explore what it means to be a global citizen. Students are selected through an application process, and following the summit, commit to participating in activities over the course of a year.

Artivism

Learn how to use your creativity to inspire people to take action and get excited about global issues. Art for activism, Artivism raises awareness about social issues through the arts, including visual arts, spoken word, creative writing and theater.

Join the Action Center in a fast-paced week of hands-on art projects, global awareness, artists’ talent and Mercy Corps expertise! For students entering 6th-8th grade.
