Two young men sit outside the shop that's brought them a new source of income. Unfortunately, estimates place youth unemployment rates as high as 90% in Liberia, where an entire generation still struggles with the consequences of poor education during the country's 14-year civil war.

Mercy Corps' Advancing Youth Project focuses on strengthening remedial skills like reading and basic finance before connecting young people with jobs and small business opportunities. By identifying needs that are not currently being met in the market, groups of young people can offer new services that more likely to succeed.
