Message from Mitsuko Ishimaru

A Massive 9.0 Magnitude earthquake struck Japan on March 11th, 2011 at 2:46 pm Japan time. As of March 23rd 11:00 pm, 9,523 people were proclaimed dead, 16,000 missing, and approximately 250,000 people are staying at shelters.

We are two Japanese women living in California, a naturopathic doctor and a Japanese acupuncturist, who believe that with a disaster of this proportion, it is our duty to take a proactive role toward an effort to aid relief for Japan. Our families are living in Japan, and some of them are located close to the damaged area and we are hearing their suffering almost every day through the internet and telephones.

This project - Peace Wings represents the image of "Thousand Origami Cranes", Senbazuru. In Japan it is believed that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted their wish, such as long life or recovery from illness or other tragedy.

For Japan’s earthquake, Mercy Corps is working to provide life-saving basics to help people in desperate need such as water, food, shelter, and other survival materials. In the long run, the organization aims to help earthquake-affected families rebuild their lives. Your donation to Mercy Corps will be used to meet immediate and long-term needs of earthquake survivors in Japan.

Every contribution counts.... Please help us make a difference!
