Message from East/West Sylvan Middle School
Buy a Crane and Help Japan!
In the aftermath of Japan’s devastating earthquake, our 6th grade students at East Sylvan Middle School who have been practicing "Kindness" this year, have decided to take action. Inspired by the book “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes” by Eleanor Coerr, our ambitious students have been very busy. Through a simple, powerful gesture of making a paper crane, we intend to send our wish for hope, healing and peace to Japan.
For over a month now, students come into the library daily at lunch to make, string and hang the beautiful cranes. The colorful warmth the cranes bring to our school has been inspiring.
We have teamed up with Mercy Corps and want to turn our efforts into a helpful reality for Japan. We are selling each origami paper crane for $1.00. You may “buy” your crane(s) in reality by coming into the school library to purchase them or buy them “figuratively” by donating directly through Mercy Corps. You can also send donations to the school library with your student.
The hours the students have put into creating these cranes shows their impressive working effort to help Japan despite the miles between us.
