More than four million people in Balochistan — Pakistan’s largest and poorest province — drink dirty water, putting them at risk for preventable diseases and other serious health problems.
Mercy Corps is repairing and building safe water systems powered by alternative energy sources -- and teaching communities how to manage and maintain them.
Mercy Corps will work with local communities and build the water capacity of Balochistan’s main service providers, focusing on the development of simple, sustainable technologies and alternate energy sources such as wind or solar. We will support communities in developing sustainable management plans for these systems — increasing community ownership and providing a basis for cost recovery, as well as the acquiring the knowledge and materials needed to maintain the improved water systems. The project also focuses on helping poor communities — which include thousands of Afghan refugees — to advocate for access to clean water and to better manage water resources.
Your support will help protect the health of thousands of families in Pakistan by ensuring an easy-to-access supply of clean, fresh water. Thank you!
