Mercy Corps supporter
If you’re reading this blog you’re probably a lot like me. You come here to be inspired by the people creating positive change in communities around the globe. I don’t work for Mercy Corps, I work for an apparel company called Nau. The connection between an apparel company and a global nonprofit working in international relief and recovery might not be obvious at first glance. However, it is thanks to connections like ours that Mercy Corps is able to reach new audiences and donors, and ultimately more people in need.
We knew from the beginning that we wanted Nau to represent the collective values of the people working for and with the company. We apply this to everything we do — from sustainability to labor practices and our belief that the private sector has a responsibility to support organizations doing humanitarian and environmental work. The health and well-being of our planet depends on it.
Nau donates two percent of all sales to five non-profit organizations; we call them our “Partners for Change”. Our customers take an extra step when purchasing online. Before they complete a transaction, they must stop, read and learn about these organizations and choose the one to whom they would like to donate two percent of their sale. This small change in the online buying process brings Mercy Corps in front of thousands of new people every year.
We chose Mercy Corps as one of our “Partners for Change” in part because they are at the heart of our community here in Portland. The Mercy Corps headquarters is literally in the center of our city, and their presence and influence in the community is constant. Without a doubt they have raised our awareness and involvement in international disaster relief. They invite the community to the Action Center to talk with people from the field. They assist community organizers and young activists by helping them spread the word about disaster relief.
Helping people closer to home, Mercy Corps Northwest gives microfinance loans to low-income individuals in the Northwest. Choosing Mercy Corps as one of our Partners was an easy decision.
With the giving season right around the corner, we’re trying to find even more ways to introduce Mercy Corps to new audiences. This week we’re spreading the word about our 10 percent giving promotion. From now through November 8 we’re giving ten percent of all sales to our Partners for Change. For the Mercy Corps audience, receive an additional 10 percent off your order by entering the promo code “MERCYCORPS”.
What other connections — that aren’t so obvious — might be possible between Mercy Corps and your own world? If you want to brainstorm, we’re all ears: customercare@nau.com.
