The World's Youngest Principal

We often find heroes in the places where we work. On July 4, as we distributed critical supplies to displaced families in China's Sichuan Province, we met one of the most inspiring heroes yet.

Zhang Yong, a 17-year-old earthquake survivor, got his friends together to organize a temporary school just days after the catastrophe. For the last two months, they have provided a tent classroom — and a sense of normalcy — to the children of a devastated village.

As Mercy Corps continues to help Sichuan's families and children recover and rebuild, we are proud to work alongside heroes like Zhang Yong.
