SRINAGAR - While the US government is against the visit of its citizens to Kashmir due to security reasons, American singer Terra Noami mesmerised thousands of her Kashmiri fans on the bank of world famous Dal Lake here on Monday evening.

Despite intense cold, the audience listened to the Youtube sensation, attired in traditional Kashmiri dress, with apt attention amid thunderous applause.

Terra sang her famous song “Say it’s possible” also.

Her musical concert was on “Climate Change” and was aimed at making the people aware about the hazardous effects of global warming. Noted Kashmiri singer Waheed Jeelani sang the Kashmiri version of “Say it’s possible.”

The concert was organised by Mercy Corps in association with Jammu & Kashmir Tourism Department and Kashmir University.

Tight security

Very tight security arrangements were made for the concert since it was held three days after the attack on a moderate and pro-dialogue Hurriyat Conference leader Fazal Haq Quereshi whose condition continues to be critical and is still in hospital.

The organisers were planning to cancel Terra’s concert for security reasons but finally decided to go ahead. During the concert there was heavy deployment of police and security men and security personnel monitored the situation from a chopper.

Terra was happy over the concert and thanked the people. She said she was impressed by the scenic beauty of Kashmir.

US government has been asking its citizens not to visit Kashmir after the abduction and killing of five foreign tourists including Americans in Pahalgam area in south Kashmir in 1995.
