As you know, 750,000 people in East Africa are at risk immanent starvation within the next 4 months and things keep getting worse. Already, 30,000 children have lost their lives and counting. An estimated 12.4 million people are being affected by this crisis. The latest surveys (September 2011) of the U.N. Food Security and Nutrition Analysis Unit for Somalia found hundreds of people are dying every day from the famine. At least half of them are children.
The region’s worst drought in 60 years is forcing families to walk for days to find food and water. Herds of livestock, many families’ primary source of food and income, have been lost. Farmers are literally watching their crops and livelihoods wither away.
I am hoping you can help me contribute to Mercy Corps. They are an organization that is on the ground and helping in Somalia. They are providing truckloads of water, shipments of food and other critical, lifesaving supplies. Mercy Corps uses 88 percent of its resources to fund programs, only 12 percent goes to administrative costs.
I am wanting to RAISE $10,000!!! I have contributed $3,000 myself to this campaign and I am hoping you can join me. Increments $100, $200, $500, $1,000 +
