Formerly dean of the business school at the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Woo took over as CEO of Catholic Relief Services January 1, 2012, making her CRS’ seventh chief executive since the agency was founded in 1943. With a background in corporate and competitive strategy, entrepreneurship, management of innovation and change, and organizational systems, Woo offers her perspective after 17 months on the job.

Founded by the Catholic Bishops of the United States to serve World War II survivors in Europe, Catholic Relief Services has since expanded in size to reach more than 100 million people in nearly 100 countries on five continents.

Dr. Woo was born and raised in Hong Kong, and immigrated to the United States to attend Purdue University, where she received her B.S., M.S.I.A. and Ph.D. degrees, and became a member of its faculty. Her teaching, research and administrative leadership have been recognized by many organizations and awards, including the Best Paper Awards by the Academy of Management and selection as one of Forty Young Leaders of American Academe by Change Magazine (the journal of the American Association for Higher Education). She was the first female dean to chair the accreditation body for business schools (AACSB: Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and directed its initiative for Peace through Commerce.

She is married to David E. Bartkus and they have two sons, Ryan and Justin.
