Jakarta, Indonesia — At least one billion people around the world lack access to clean water. Laliah, a 70-year-old widow who earns only $20 a month, was once one of them.
She lives in Tanah Merah, one of Jakarta's poorest neighborhoods, a place where residents receive no municipal water service and used to fork over a third of their wages to buy water from private sellers.
Can you imagine spending one of every three dollars you earn just to have enough water to survive?
You can do something about it by becoming a monthly donor.
With the support of our monthly donors, we've already helped Laliah's neighborhood by building a water system, from the holding tanks to the kitchen taps.
Your monthly donation can help us do even more:
- $13 pays a year's water bills for an elderly woman like Laliah
- $28 covers annual water costs for a family of five in a poor neighborhood like Tanah Merah
- $60 installs pipes and taps to provide clean water for three households
And for a limited time, when you join Monthly Giving you'll receive a stainless-steel water bottle as a "thank you" for your commitment to families in need.
Our monthly donors are full partners in our work in some of the world's poorest and toughest places. And that kind of change doesn't cost a lot: the small amount you would spend on a cup of coffee or a bottle of water each day is enough to make life much easier for families struggling to simply get enough water to survive.
You can help them turn on the taps.
Join Monthly Giving and make a lifesaving difference — and get a stainless-steel water bottle.
