Mercy Corps has been awarded approximately US$1.3 million from the UK Department for International Development (DFID) to aid the agency's emergency response in Gaza.

The grant of £913,000 from DFID will fund two critical Mercy Corps projects over the next nine months:

The first will improve living conditions and drinking-water access for families whose homes or neighborhoods were affected by the 22-day conflict between Hamas and Israel.

The second is a comprehensive psychosocial program involving one-on-one treatment to traumatized youth and assistance to parents and caregivers. The program will reach more than 14,000 people in all.
