Japan will allocate grants totaling $232,000 for three projects in Azerbaijan under the "Grassroots and Human Security" program. Relevant agreements were signed at the Japanese embassy in Baku on Thursday by Japanese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Toshiyuki Fujiwara and representatives of Azerbaijan's non-governmental organizations.
A $86,000 grant will be allocated to Mercy Corps for a project aimed at improving first medical aid in the Yardimli District. Another grant totaling $80,668 will be allotted to the Azerbaijan Society of Disabled Women to upgrade a canned food workshop for disabled women. Yet another grant worth $65,331 will be allocated to "Save the Children" charity organization to repair the Children's Psycho-neurological Center in the Mingachevir District.
The grant program, implemented by the Japanese government, is aimed at promoting the development of countries around the world. Under the program, the Japanese embassy in Baku regularly allocates funds for socio-economic development projects on improving living standards in Azerbaijan. The projects cover health, educational and social sectors. The Japanese government has allocated over $3.770 million under 64 projects within the mentioned program, implemented in Azerbaijan since 2000.
