When he heard his dad talking about fundraising for earthquake survivors in Haiti, 5-year-old Brody McBee offered up his secret stash of change.

Editor's note: This is one in an occasional series of short stories about inspiring and colorful donor contributions, efforts and events — both here in the Pacific Northwest and across the country.

When Washington D.C. consultant Steve McBee put out the call to his firm, offering to match employee donations to Mercy Corps for the Haiti earthquake relief fund, he didn’t expect a contribution from his five-year-old son Brody. But Brody came forward, offering up his secret stash of change to help people in need.

“He heard us talking about it, and then he showed up with this bucket of coins,” says McBee with a laugh. “We didn’t know he had it… because apparently, he’d been pilfering from us for quite a while! But his heart’s in the right place after all, because he said he wanted to contribute all of it.”
