Wedding bells
July 20, 2009
Next week, I’m headed back home to Hawaii for two weddings. In a moment of curiosity, I did a quick search for “weddings” on Mercy Corps’ website.
I found this story on an Afghani woman named Nasrin, who is baking flatbread out of her home – 100 pieces of naan and bolani daily! She has been able to start and grow this small business thanks to microloans, and was able to put some of the profit towards her eldest son’s wedding.
I’m looking forward to celebrating with family and long-time friends, and am pleased to know I work for an organization that helps people halfway around the world to experience this same joy.
