Why Give to Mercy Corps

When you make a donation to Mercy Corps, you can trust that it is being used wisely.

We are efficient with your donations

Over the last five years, Mercy Corps has used 88 percent of its resources to fund programs that help people in need around the world. Only 12 percent goes to administrative costs. Our financial stewardship has earned us the highest possible rating from Charity Navigator, the premier American charity evaluator. Click here for endorsements from other charity watchdogs.

We are effective at what we do

In 2010, our donors helped 19 million people improve their lives.

  • Our network of 11 microfinance institutions in 10 countries helped 300,500 clients – 63 percent of whom are women – start small businesses to become self-sufficient.
  • We provided emergency assistance — food, water, shelter, hygiene supplies and short-term jobs — to help 830,000 people recover and rebuild after the devastating Haiti earthquake.
  • In Niger, Mercy Corps supplied lifesaving food aid to 178,750 rural people after drought destroyed their harvests.

We’ve been lauded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for our innovative approach that helps people recover quickly from disasters. Bill Clinton commended us for our use of technology to help poor people – and for the way we collaborate with diverse partners to achieve results. And we’re honored to have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

We are accountable to you

We believe that it is our duty to be effective stewards of the financial resources entrusted to us. That's one of Mercy Corps' eight core values. We monitor and evaluate the efficacy of our programs with a dedicated staff of specialists, and conduct regular internal and external financial audits.
